JOJO THE DOLPHIN
The National Treasure of the Turks and Caicos Islands, JoJo is a wild Atlantic bottlenose dolphin that has made these gin-clear waters his home since the 1980s. He is known for his friendly and playful behavior, and often seeks out interaction with humans. As we cruise along the coastline, to Little Water Cay or Pine Cay, keep an eye out for JoJo. He is well known for swimming alongside our vessels, and giving a warm and playful Turks and Caicos welcome to visitors. JoJo’s story has been documented in books, films, and documentaries, and he has become a beloved icon of the Turks and Caicos. Sometimes JoJo is spotted with companions Dreamer or Mojo.
LA FAMILLE EXPRESS WRECK
The La Famille Express is a famous freighter wreck located off the coast of Providenciales in the shallows of the Caicos Banks. The ship was washed up into the shallows by a hurricane where it remained stranded on the Caicos Bank. It’s now a renowned tourist spot that created an artificial reef around its submerged hull and propellers, and is a popular destination for photography, adrenaline jumping, jet ski tours, and snorkeling enthusiasts. The wreck has become a haven for a variety of marine life in the shallows around the base of the ship, including colorful tropical fish, rays, and even the occasional nurse shark found on the sand bar. Visitors can explore the rusted remains of the ship which is largely intact, and even carefully venture through the ship and, for the adrenaline-pumped, jump from the ship’s bridge.
DELLIS CAY
Dellis Cay is a small uninhabited island located close to Pine Cay, and known for its stunning white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters. The island was once slated to be developed into a luxury resort, but the project was abandoned during the financial crisis of 2008. Today, Dellis Cay remains a pristine and secluded destination, accessible only by boat. The island has been purchased by a new luxury developer and is on its way to become a low density, high quality destination branded by Mandarin Oriental. The island is surrounded by healthy coral reefs, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.
SHELL ISLAND
Shell Island is a tiny uninhabited island located approximately 2.5 miles east of Pine Cay, making it possible to visit both destinations in a single day. Named after the countless shells that can be found on its shores, the island is surrounded by warm shallow water where schools of tiny fish and plenty of small crustaceans can be observed right along the shoreline. The island is accessible only by boat and offers a secluded and peaceful escape for visitors, with pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
